Warning -my website is having some technical issues- some photos on some pages have swapped countries and I’m trying to fix!
I wish to pay my sincere respects to the First Nations peoples of the land now called Australia, the worlds oldest living cultures from whom we have so much to learn: from their deep and complex spiritualities, relationships with and knowledge of the land, waterways and skies; about how to live sustainably with land, living things and with each other in systems based on equality and love- the ‘holy grail’ for any civilisation.
As Australians we are all diminished until we face the truths of our past, right the ongoing traumas of colonisation and work together to build a fair and equitable future for all. We have a long way to go.
On my journey I will be carrying a felt Desert Pea to symbolise blood spilled, as well as beauty and hope for a better future. I will engage in conversations wherever I go to raise awareness of the traumatic history of invasion and of the journey Australia, and indeed many colonised countries, must take to right wrongs of past.
Acknowledgement to Memorial florist & activist Hazel Davies for the concept
of the felt Desert Pea.
